Radioactive Waste? No Thanks!

The Nuclear Information and Resource Service (NIRS) is circulating an important petition that I want to make my readers aware of.  The petition calls for a national policy based upon four essential principles concerning the production, transportation, and storage of radioactive waste.  On November 16, NIRS will present the petition, along with quite a bit of documentation, to the Obama Administration’s Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future.
NIRS summarizes the principles presented as follows:
1)  No reprocessing of radioactive waste
2)  Isolation from the biosphere for as long as it remains a hazard
3)  Hardening and improved monitoring of the waste where it is currently stored
4)  Stop Making Radioactive Waste!
For further information, and to sign the online petition, please click here.  Please note that the petition will be available through November 15.  (Update: The petition was submitted, with over 3,000 signatures.)
