Kathy Kelly Urges, “A New Year’s Call for Peace”

Kathy and Friends in Afghanistan

Kathy Kelly, of Voices for Creative Nonviolence, has issued a letter, urging “A New Year’s Call for Peace.”  Kathy writes, “While the US may be the world’s single super power in military terms, it faces another super power: the voices of war-weary millions who detest violence and killing. In Afghanistan, in the United States, and among the populations of countries whose governments have joined the NATO coalition, millions of people are calling for an end to war in Afghanistan.”
Beginning at 7:05 pm Eastern Time, on Friday, December 31, 2010, and until 7:05 pm on January 1, 2011, we are asked to send “a digital or spoken peacemaking message to people in Afghanistan.   By amassing millions of messages calling for peace, we can create yet another indication that ordinary people within and beyond Afghanistan have had enough of war. … We can catch courage from one another, sparking a New Year’s momentum to put an end to war.”
We can make this call for an end to the war in Afghanistan, by email, by Skype, by text message, by conference call (to California), through Twitter, and on Facebook.
Emails, calling for an end to the war in Afghanistan, can be sent to DearAfghanistan@gmail.com
The Facebook group is Afghan Youth Peace Volunteers.

The idea to communicate with Afghanistan is lovely. I will plan to do just that. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Happy New Year to you and yours.
